cheesy cheddar chili dogs

When I was younger, the best part about going to a baseball game was the scent of greasy burgers and hot dogs that wafted my way with every breeze. There’s just something about a stadium dog—it’s like every bite is a taste of summer. Since I’m not a serious burger eater, every family barbecue calls for some tasty grilled dogs.

My favorite part about this recipe is how easy it is to make these delicious dogs. Store-bought chili is the real MVP here—because store-bought means no hard work or hours of preparation. Melted cheddar was a must for a cheese lover like me, and the chopped scallions on top added a colorful flare. Whether it’s a summer barbecue, a family dinner or maybe you’re just craving a hot dog, give these easy chili dogs a try.

Ingredients:

8 hot dog buns

8 all-beef hot dogs

1 can store-bought chili (I used Hormel mild chili with beans)

1 bag shredded American cheese

1-2 scallions, chopped

Crushed red pepper to taste

Preheat the oven to 350. Grill hot dogs until they are a medium brown or visibly showing grill marks. Meanwhile, heat chili and sauerkraut in separate pots on the stove. Put hot dogs in buns and top with chili, sauerkraut, cheddar cheese and crushed red pepper. Bake in the oven at 300 for 5-7 minutes or until cheese melts.
